Resumes and Cover Letters WBL Workshop

On January 12th, 2015 I attended a Resumes and Cover Letters WBL Workshop in the CCEC at my school, Information Technology High School. The purpose of the workshop was to make sure that when we apply for jobs in the future we have the proper interview skills as well as what to do before an interview so that it may run smoothly. The guest who came to speak with us was Morris W. Stemp, Chief Executive Officer of Stemp Systems Group.  He speak to me and other students about the importance of Resume building and the do's and don'ts when building a Resume. He also told us to make sure that our email are appropriate, and if possible include text pertaining to my career path. He made this quite relevant by giving us examples of prior emails had received from applicants with strange names like hot lips and a few others.  When sending a Resume, it must always be accompanied with Cover Letter. The cover letter must start with, "Who this may concern" and then following that address skills, what they can contribute to the company. For each job application each cover letter should be different and customized for that specific job position After the interview you should always send a thank you letter, it leaves a good impression and makes you stand out when reading applications. During the interview however, present your self in a way that you are ready to learn. Before the interview you should extensive research of the company, know the location well and the culture of the area. Make sure to be cautious of Social Media sites as there are employers who want to make sure they are hiring the right person so they most likely will check profiles. Everyone should have a linkedin, and the information on the linked in profile should have the same content as the resume.  The resume should have proper grammar punctuation, formatted properly and sent good. Before sending however, make sure your resume is up to date. Make sure to have attention to detail, present yourself in a proper way. Sending your resume in PDF form is preferred so that they employer may check it on any device.  If you are suppose  to graduate or get a certification by a certain date and don't end up getting it, take it off the resume. Lastly, work is work so you have to love what you do.
